Part 10: My DNA Match Journey

During my DNA journey, I have discovered so many surprises. Like the fact that I had blood relatives living near and around me the entire time growing up but not discovering it until just the past several years. To be brought to a very small town to live and grow up in, that is between 3-6 hours away from the places that my Ancestor's or immediate family lived at, is to me a small world. I realize that only a few hours away shouldn't be that big of a surprise, but it was to me but I do not feel like it was by coincidence though.

I have also discovered while researching my Ancestor's where about's that they also inhabited some places near where I live now. I think it's very neat how I am living in the same area that my Ancestors lived and I wonder if I may be living in the exact same area.

Once I discovered who my blood relatives were and some surnames I have discovered the various lines and that there were people I grew up around and may have seen several times in passing or that I may have even known personally that connect to these same lines.

Being adopted can bring up some concerns, with one being the fact that if you do not know your birth family, your same blood kin, then it can be interesting trying to make sure that you aren't actually dating a distant cousin. haha. There was one time that I almost fixed my daughter up with a distant cousin, and that was way after I had taken my dna test and knew who my family was.

Another concern that most adoptees face is health concerns. Anytime I have gone to the Dr and have been asked what my family history is, I was never able to provide anything until I reunited with them. Even still I do not know a compete health history of family. I do know that both of my parents passed at young ages.  But my mothers death was accidental.

It's been so interesting to me though to discover each of my unique Ancestor lines and there ethnicity's as well. Who knew that I do not even have any American Ethnicity in my blood. I am over 70% British and have British on both sides of my family. I have also discovered some famous Ancestor's and relatives along the way.

DNA can bring up so much and along with it some secrets. So far I do not feel like my family has any secrets that they were holding. But they sure have had some interesting things take place. Back then I am assuming that they didn't go very far to find their mate in life so they just settled with a cousin. I am so glad that we didn't carry on that tradition.

If you have made it this far reading my story, I'd love to hear some comments from you, so please feel free to leave a comment. Or if you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer the best way I can.
