Celiac Disease - part 1
Celiac Disease
Up until 2019 I had never really heard of this disease. Or, if I had then I surely didn't know what it was about.
I definitely can not pinpoint a time that this disease started. But I know I suffered with a lot of the symptoms for years. I would say for over 10 years and more now.
From what I've learned about this disease is that a lot of people go undiagnosed for years before they find out that they have this disease.
Who is predestined to possibly get this disease? Anyone who carries the Celiac gene. It's a gene that is passed down from one or both parents or grandparents. It can skip family members. But you can only have the Celiac gene if your family member has it and passes to you.
So thanks to my parents or grandparents, I now have this gene. Yay me... But when I first started learning about it, I read that out of all of the autoimmune diseases to have that it's the easiest one to deal with and heal from. Now that doesn't mean it's the one with the easiest symptoms though.
You can heal from this disease but since it is an autoimmune disease it is incurable. But the reason that it's one of the easiest to manage is because you can basically eliminate gluten from your diet and daily activities and begin your healing process.
And if you know what an autoimmune disease is, you know it's a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy body cells. Which of course can cause a lot of other issues.
Celiac can have hundreds of symptoms and some people may not present with any at all but can still have the Celiac gene.
What Celiac Disease is. It's a chronic immune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion. And it results in damage of the intestinal lining and can cause diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss or gain, bloating and anemia. That's just to name a few of the symptoms.
