Part 2 My New Family

From birth until almost age four I was lovingly taken good care of by my foster parents. However, the state would not allow them to adopt me at their age. They were in their fifties at the time. So, that was when I was placed for adoption availability.

The day arrived that I was to meet my new potential family. They had arrived in the county where I resided with my foster family which was about three hours away from where they lived. The plan was for them to just get to meet me that day and not to take me into possession.

However, my foster parents especially my foster mother was devasted that she had to give me over to a new family so therefore she hid me from Social Services. I'm am not too sure exactly where she tried to hide me but they found me fairly quickly and decided it was best that my new family take me on with them that day.

I was three and a half years old and five weeks shy of my fourth birthday but I remember that day just like it was yesterday. Of course I didn't quite understand what was going on and why I was being taken away from the only family I knew. But as we get older we sometimes understand why things happen the way they do.

While waiting for my new family to arrive, I remember one of the nice Social workers giving me a doll, which I still have, but I was upset so, I threw it down on the floor after she handed it to me. I remember her so gently reaching down and picking it up and handing it back to me without getting mad at me. I also remember thinking to myself, after throwing it down, if she picks it back up and tries handing it back to me then I'm going to just throw it back down. But, I guess with the fact that she was so nice, I didn't throw it back.

The time arrived to meet my new family. I would have 3 new brothers and a set of parents. We stayed at a nearby motel and it had a pool. To me that was the coolest thing ever and probably the first time I had ever seen a pool. I remember my new brothers telling me that they were going to throw me in the pool. That was a little scary but I still trusted them to not really do that. I think maybe even that was my first time tattling. But hey, being thrown into a big scary pool is a big deal, right?

Later that night I remember asking about a toothbrush laying nearby and who it was for, which I found out was for me. I'm not sure if that was the first time I had ever seen a toothbrush as well, but I hope it wasn't. But I was intrigued by it just the same.

I was told that we went to McDonald's for supper that evening and when they asked me what I wanted to eat, I told them a hot dog. Funny how now hotdogs have never been a favorite food of mine. However, onions must have always been. I'll tell the onion story later.

After we arrived at my new home with my new family, I had my own bedroom. I remember my new bedroom furniture arriving later on. My new parents weren't quite prepared just yet for a new daughter but remember they were just supposed to be meeting me so they hadn't made plans to be bringing me home just yet.

But my bedroom filled up with new toys fairly quickly once I arrived. I also remember my brothers letting me play with some of their stuff. I have some other fond memories of them as well but they were at least eight to twelve years older than I was, so needless to say they left home when I was still young. That pretty much made me to grow up like I was an only child. Even though I technically had 6 older siblings. That also meant I always grew up as the baby of each family which I would later in life find out I had even more siblings which are younger than I. I'll talk more about what I know of them later.
