C**** V**** Part 1
Lets talk about the C word, and not the long lived one that millions of people have faced for years but the most current one that all started in the year 2020.
By now, most people we know have gotten Covid at least once if not more than and if you have not, then consider yourself very fortunate.
For me, I have gotten it twice so far and my husband as well. But so far neither one of my kids or grandkids have, even though they all live in the same household with us.
The very first time I got it, I really thought I had a bad sinus infection but probably should have known that without a couple of the symptoms that it wasn't a sinus infection. But I erred on the side of caution anyway and went to my local Medical Walk in Clinic to see what was going on since I was scheduled for work that evening.
I arrived at my appointment and I was tested and asked about my symptoms and immediately told that I was showing classic symptoms of Covid. But of course I was still in a little bit of denial wondering how could they possibly know it is Covid. And besides, the testing that they did was not a rapid return one so it would take a day or two to even know for sure.
But reluctantly I took my diagnosis and my work excuse for the next 10 days and went my way to sulk at home and try to recuperate the next several days. Besides I did not feel like working or going anywhere else at that matter anyway so having some days off seemed like a wonderful idea after all.
I did take my diagnosis serious even though I was trying to convince myself that they didn't know what they were talking about. So for the next 10 days I was good and quarantined myself. I didn't step foot outside my front door and after a couple of days of not feeling quite as bad I did start coming out of the bedroom around the family more but with wearing my mask around them though. Luckily I was able to get dinner for us from elsewhere for several days without having to prepare and cook food that my family would be consuming. And at the time my daughter and grandchildren were staying elsewhere so that was good that they were not being exposed to me or my husband who did end up getting it several days after I did. And of course I got my results the next day after being tested, that I indeed was positive for the virus.
I am not going to pretend that it wasn't a rough 10 days plus, but considering how it's effected others then I was blessed to not have a far more worse case of it.
For me, it was no fever, and a lot of head congestion but no drainage, which should have clued me in to it not being a sinus infection. But I did also suffer with body aches, and headaches, and some light headedness.
So, as the days went by which it kind of seemed like it went slowly instead of flying like most days off seem to do. I didn't appear to be getting much better other than most symptoms finally clearing up somewhat but not fully. All symptoms gradually went away but not with my ears. My ears and especially the left one were giving me issues. I had a few people seem to think it could be a ear infection which I was not fully convinced that it was because I had no pain at all and still no fever. However I did have a lot of ear clogging and hearing loss along with a constant noise in my ear that sounded just like the noise you hear when you pick up a sea shell and listen to it. But the noise was not going anywhere. It was 24/7 and my ear felt clogged 24/7 and my hearing was fluctuating but was not at 100% during any of this time.
So after my ten quarantine days was through, off to the Walk in Clinic I went again. I needed to know what was going on. I still didn't feel well from the lingering symptoms. So, I was seen and evaluated and told that my ears looked a little red and was prescribed an antibiotic to help clear them up. So, although I was still not fully convinced that it could be an ear infection, I had high hopes that this antibiotic would clear my ears up and I would be feeling much better in a few short days.
I got my prescription. The ten day course of medicine that I took faithfully each day, was doing nothing at all, not even remotely helping for one second but I remained taking it anyway just hoping it was taking extra time to start helping me but sadly it didn't.
At this point I was really concerned about my ear and especially my hearing loss and it is a wonder that I didn't go crazy with all of the ocean noise in my ear. Or the stuffiness I was feeling in it non stop. So, after finishing my course of medicine I made another return visit to see what was really going on with my ear. By this point, all of my issues were in my left ear only.
My next doctor visit is going to have to be with another separate blog because it is very lengthy and leads to other diagnosis that I want to talk about. I'll try not to show a lot of emotion in the next blog about my last Doctor visit for my ear but I can say that it was a memorable visit and one I wish that I could do over to be able to express my true feelings about that visit with the Doctor who saw me. But although it was not the most pleasant experience I've ever had with a Doctor, I hope that I won't have another like that. And in the outcome, I did get answers and solutions so that was my wishes and what mattered the most.
Until then.....Happy reading and stay tuned to the rest of this story.
